The scholarship funds are awarded each spring and presented at Honors Night.  The scholarship guidelines are included on each individual application.

 

Prine Scholarship
$2,000.00

The Prine Scholarship was established in 1998 in memory of Lillian & Ray Prine.  Mr. Prine ran a sawmill, Michigan Dimensions, in Manistique from 1924 to 1950.  The Prines maintained a summer home in Schoolcraft County, even after retiring to Florida.  They left most of their life savings to charity, including Masonic organizations, churches and scholarship funds.

Matthew Paul Villemure Memorial Scholarship – $500.00

Matthew Paul Villemure (06/15/1977 – 09/08/2005) attended Manistique Area Schools and was a graduate of Engadine High School in 1996.  He continued his education at Grand Valley State University.  Matt enjoyed hunting, 4-wheeling, building computers, working on his jeep and keeping up on current events and politics.   Doing what he loved, Matthew tragically lost his life in a dune buggy accident in September 2005, after which his mother started this scholarship fund in his memory.

Robert Hughes Memorial Scholarship – $500.00

The Robert C. Hughes Memorial Scholarship was established in 2007 by the Hughes family.  Mr. Hughes owned and operated the Thistledowne Bed & Breakfast at Seul Choix in Gulliver.  He was the University of Michigan Housing and Development Director until he retired.  Mr. Hughes was a mentor to students throughout his career and was interested in people, travel, good wine, good food and cooking.

Mini Grants

These grants are awarded in the Spring and Fall of each year.  Grant deadlines are March 31st and September 30th.  Grants are made only to non-profit organizations, exempt from federal taxes
